Over tired, over committed – stick a fork in me I’m done

Have you ever been so tired that you would be quite content to just sit down and have a good cry but the tears don’t come.  For those of you who’ve had children, do you remember when your toddler was so tired, there was nothing else to be done but put him to bed, let him cry for a few minutes and allow him to drift off to sleep.

I am that toddler today. That’s exactly how I feel today.  I just returned from an almost 7 hour trip to see Mrs. Thompson and it was what I wanted to do for my daughter-in-law and my son.  It all went well and I hope they are happy. It was truly my pleasure to do this.  Tomorrow is my eldest son’s birthday dinner and I’m absolutely not ready.  The cake isn’t made, I have no card, the house if a mess, my nails are not done.  Tonight is a pool party at friends which we committed to many weeks ago.   I was so tired last night I went to bed at 7:45 after a brutal week at work.

So how can someone who is basically delighted with her life end up like this? By over committing herself and poor planning, that’s how.  When I got home this afternoon my husband sent me to bed for a nap with my dog and told me he would go to the BBQ on his own and make my apologies.  He is the best husband in the world.  I cancelled my tennis game with my best friend for tomorrow morning and she was very supportive now I’m sitting in my bathrobe having a piece of chocolate and a glass of wine; the two cure alls. (in moderation of course)

The birthday cheesecake needs to be made although my son offered to pick up his own cake (what a guy!) , I need to do my nails and I’m going to have an early night and start tomorrow fresh getting ready for the party at a more leisurely pace.  My goodness we put pressure on ourselves.  Everyone was very supportive and that feels good and proves the pressure really comes from within.

So the moral of this week’s story is try not to over commit yourself and if you do, turn to those you love for support.
