Last week I told you I was coming back as a flake and after this post I’m sure some of you will be convinced I am already there but I’m going to take the risk because if you remember the bi-line “in pursuit of my authentic self” Mrs. Thompson has been part of my journey.
If you had told me before my Sister died that I would be hauling myself off to see a Psychic, I would have suggested you see a Doctor immediately and perhaps reserve yourself a spot at the local mental institution. I’ll have to give you a little background as to where I was in my life that prompted me to change my perspective.
I had just lost my Sister Jean to cancer after a 3 year, 3 month and 4 day fight, I had left my husband of 19 years and my anchors at the time were my three boys, my two best friends Debbie and Freyja and my job which even at my lowest was still better than many people I know. A fellow at work suggested I go and see Mrs. Thompson to get a reading. I didn’t have the kids that weekend and it sounded like a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon so I went with a friend. Mrs. Thompson lives in a beautiful setting along the river which has rapids where they go rafting. People come from all over the world to see her.
My first time, I went there for a lark. I’m a very logical, stable person who likes to see concrete proof before I believe. Within a moment or two it got pretty weird because she told my friend she was sorry that her babysitter had locked her in the closet. My friend almost fell off the couch. No one knew that, including myself. Then she told me about my Sister and that she saw a woman with her legs dangling. My Sister was paralyzed before she died. Then I started to cry. She took my hand and said she was sorry about the baby I lost. Okay, now time to get totally freaked out! I had lost a baby very early on. Safe to say Mrs. Thompson is the real deal. She worked for the FBI locating missing persons earlier in her life. She is now in her eighties. I’ve been going every year since 1994. She is always 100% accurate when it comes to my love life and my career and the love lives of my children. Actually I was unhappy with her readings twice. Once she told me the man that I loved wasn’t right for me and I didn’t want to believe that but she was absolutely right and it allowed me to find my husband Marc who is my soul mate. A couple of years ago I told her about my new job and how it was my dream job and how excited I was. She looked at me and said I wouldn’t like it. I convinced myself she was wrong but she wasn’t. It’s the worst job I’d had in my 20 years there. Fortunately I am now in a job I love and she agrees I’m in a good place. The sessions are taped which allows me to go back over the details later.
I certainly don’t lead my life based on Mrs. Thompson’s readings but what it has helped me to understand is that there is an afterlife, our spirits live on and our loved ones are watching us. This was very comforting at a time when I felt a little lost and missing my family terribly. So what started as a joke turned into a very positive experience. There are many things out there we don’t understand and it’s important to keep an open mind. Just because you can’t reach out and touch it, doesn’t mean it’s not there.
And just so you know, it was my Sister’s idea that I start writing. She told this to my son through Mrs. Thompson at his reading last September. She also told him I need to learn to relax and I’m working on that but it’s a challenge…

Daria - you’re so right. We hide behind humor so we aren’t embarrassed by seeking answers or guidance outside of the traditional methods. I hadn’t thought of that. I did go for a joke and the joke was on me but it turned out well because I made that connection. In fact this weekend I am going with my son and his girlfriend as her birthday present. She lost her Dad last year and I’m hoping Mrs. Thompson can give her some information to comfort her. Take care, come back soon.
How do I get in touch with Mrs Thompson. My mother has been wanting to go see a psychic since my father passed last year and she was actually referred to see her and after reading this article I want to as well.
