I have a big head

Yes, I do have a big head; literally and at times figuratively.  I recognize that I am opening myself up for cheap shots but seriously between myself and my three children we have very large heads.  This year I could not find a bike helmet to fit.  But before you feel too sorry for me, I recently saw a documentary that research shows that people with big heads also have big brains and more intelligence.  When I heard this, I was quick to inform my children about the obvious advantage I had given to them.  Now you’re probably thinking, what about their father?  He doesn’t have a big head so the connection is definitely on my side.  Plus I have a rule; no talking about work or ex-husbands.

When my youngest son was in Secondary 1 (grade 7 for the rest of the world), one girl wouldn’t date him because she said his head was too big.  He was very upset and I wanted to bring out Rambo Mom to take care of this misguided young lady.  Calm down, I didn’t do it.  Fortunately his body caught up to his head and this is no longer a problem for him - quite the opposite.

Our family is not like anyone else’s and our conversations at family dinners are unique to say the least.  During one of these dinners I decided it would be fun to take out the measuring tape and measure each of our heads to see who has the biggest head.  My new husband (I talk about him a lot) wins hands down because he is 6′4″ and big everywhere…. but among myself and the children, I have the biggest head.  To have a little sport I pretended my youngest (the one who had been rejected by the young lady) had an additional five inches.  He was so upset that my middle son came to me after dinner and told me I had to confess my prank.  Under normal circumstances he would not do this, he is the biggest joker in the family.  So I was forced to confess and I “think” he’s forgiven me.

Do you have a prank you’ve pulled on a family member you would be willing to share with me?

There is absolutely no prize but I will give you an honourable mention on next week’s blog.  Come on people talk to me!!!  I’ve left myself vulnerable here.   If you don’t take this golden opportunity that may never come again, I cannot be held responsible.

i have a little girl with big forehead but it seems it makes her an intelligent being…

Deejay, that is too funny. My former husband had an aunt who was deathly afraid of people with broad foreheads, she thought they were possessed! I also have a very broad forehead, just hidden by the bangs.
Thanks for writing.

The “big head” situation is a well-documented one in my family as well. I also have a rather large (and round) head, with a set of ears that should allow me to para sail around the globe once I’m in my 50’s (they say the nose and ears keep growing throughout one’s entire life). Interestingly enough, I also inherited these attributes from my mother’s side of the family. Luckily I inherited my grandfather’s broad shoulders, so it’s not too bad.

I don’t know that I have felt an added intelligence due to the abnormal size of my cranium, but I can attest to the fact that it’s much easier to get people’s attention and to be memorable. Does this make any sense?

PS Raina is a blessing! Lisa is expecting for the end of the year too.

Jason, I’m so excited for you. I wish you and Lisa a beautiful and happy baby. Being a Mother is my most important and meaninful role.
Enjoy this special and exciting time.

My husband has a big round head but that never got him anywhere (grin) My head is of normal shape and proportion but I can easily out-think him with words and pictures. He on the other hand is good with numbers :-D

What a funny prank. I’m glad you put him out of his misery though!
