Gratitude

I am a huge believer in gratitude. There are always things we want (perhaps even need) but if we focus on what we have rather than what we don’t, we are much happier people. No one has a perfect life - that wouldn’t be much of a challenge, would it?

Here is something I do which is really powerful:

Take a few minutes to write down all the things you are grateful for. Your family, your friends, your job, your health, your home and anything else you can think of that you are grateful you have.  Read the list out loud daily (preferably in the morning). See what a difference it makes to focus on the positive.  I am blessed that I have always been able to look on the positive side of life and this small action does focus you on the right things. The other important thing to do with this list is to think about how you spend your time. If you don’t spend it building on the relationships you are grateful for, you need to make some changes to your priorities.

Here is my gratitude list to help you get started:

“I am so happy and grateful for the blessings in my life. For my husband, my 3 sons, their girlfriends and for my adorable grandson.  I feel blessed to have had loving parents Alan and Sarah and an amazing sister Dee Dee.  I feel grateful to be feeling no pain and for having been given a good brain and the ability to work effectively. I am happy to have a good job, where I am appreciated, a lovely home to live in and great friends to share my life. I am also grateful for the doggies Zoe & Serena and to Paddy, my dog of a lifetime.”

Give it a try, tell me how you make out and if it helped you focus your energy on your true priorities.

Great technique. I have done this mentally many times, and also as an added step, I remind myself to what degree I should be truly concerned regarding various problems I might be facing. Taking the stress out of my worries so-to-speak.
